Brightwater is a visionary new waterfront community in Port Credit in Mississauga. Situated between Lakeshore Boulevard and Lake Ontario, this neighbourhood district will include townhouses and mid-rise housing with a vibrant public square, retail, and commercial realm. Integral to the design of the community is a linked system of green infrastructure made up of street boulevards with Low Impact Development (LID) integrated design, new parks, pedestrian mews, bike paths, and shared trails.
Part of the Brightwater Community, The Mason is designed by architects-Alliance as a nine-storey mixed-use condo, with townhouses and retail at ground level. Quinn is focusing on the courtyard design, which integrates a pedestrian-friendly drop-off within a garden. Trees that are integrated with low plantings provide a textured canopy above movable café seating and double-sided benches. These niches offer residents opportunities for quiet moments or casual meet-ups. The material palette of cobble paving, corten steel, wood bench tops, and a selection of urban furnishings surround a plant composition with shapes, texture, and blooms to engage users in all seasons. The plantings act as a “living calendar” that celebrates the seasons through spring bulbs, flowering summer perennials, fall grasses and winter seed heads. Performative plant combinations are considered through a ‘Know Maintenance' approach that allow the garden to exist and evolve as it’s own community, Quinn’s approach to plantings relies on integrated landscape sustainability principles, and is based on a deep understanding of plant species communities and the reality of maintenance practices.
