The Port Lands Flood Protection + Enabling Infrastructure Project (PLFPEI) is a comprehensive strategy for flood protection of the south-east district of downtown Toronto at Lake Ontario that is at risk of flooding in a signiflcant storm event. Consisting of a series of projects, the overall goal of removing the flood risk will unlock nearly 356 hectares (880 acres) of lands for revitalization and development. The project will also substantially enhance the area’s public realm, beautifying a key part of the downtown and continuing transformation and revitalization of Toronto’s waterfront.
As part of a team led by Entuitive consulting engineers, Quinn is providing landscape architectural services for the Bridges Project component of the PLFPEI, which involves the design and engineering for the Cherry Street North Bridge and South Bridge, and the Commissioner’s Street Bridge. With a focus on exemplary design, these vehicular and pedestrian bridges will complement the unique characteristics and qualities of the accompanying river and park system in addition to meeting flood protection requirements. The landscape scope addresses the areas immediately adjacent to the three bridges, ensuring a seamless integration of infrastructure to the adjacent landscape and to the work of MVAA Landscape Architects as part of the overall PLFPEI.
